"Chemicals have replaced bacteria and viruses as the main threat to human health... The diseases we're beginning to see as the major cause of death in the latter part of this century and into the 21st century are diseases of chemical origin" Rick Irvin, a toxicologist at Texas A&M Univ
One of my FB friends posted a comment on how more people die from Malaria then chemicals. He said that there are only 200,000 deaths annually from chemicals. Amazing how people are kept in the dark about what is truly affecting their health. Oh, did I mention he thought it was absurd that DDT (you know the chemical that almost put the Bald Eagle in extinction) was banned!! PHEW! So this is what I had to say after that...
"The guy in this quote is not talking about ONE chemical here; he is talking about a melting pot of synthetics. For instance, you quoted a number of 200,000 deaths from “chemicals”. Let’s instead look at the BIG picture. Let’s look at deaths... from cancer, neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, asthma, allergies to name a few. These are just a few of the ways a person can suffer a death from chemicals. WAY more than 200,000 deaths I am sure. Look at the level of synthetic chemicals on a daily basis. Pharmaceuticals, pesticides, packaged food, cosmetics, skincare, vitamins just to name a few. DDT may temporarily wipe out mosquitoes, but the effects on all other life forms (including the food chain) is detrimental. As was shown with DDT after its introduction, insects will build a resistance… then what. How about educate people. Stop over-populating in poverty stricken areas where malaria breeds. It breeds where there is no sanitation, in the stagnant waters where the mosquitoes fester. What about nets. A simple, non-threatening object is just as effective, if not more. DDT is a band-aid over a broken arm."
This whole conversation just upset me. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that literally have no idea that almost everything they ingest, rub on, breath in, is effecting their body in one way or another... Either positively or negatively, very little has no effect.
Next time you pick something up (unless it's an organic piece of produce) turn it over and read the label. You will be amazed what they put in stuff!
